RAIN and snow led to all bar four of the scheduled 14 fixtures from the Shoestrings-sponsored Chippenham Sunday League being postponed at the weekend, while another two were abandoned.

At Leafy Lane, first division Corsham Oak had to overcome both the elements and a determined Faded side to book their place in the quarter-finals of this season AM Print & Copy-sponsored Knockout Cup.

In what were atrocious conditions the Oakmen battled their way to a 4-0 win.

Ed Sibbick’s goal separated the sides at the break. Kevin Bance, who returned to the Corsham line-up after suspension, came off the bench in the second half and his double along with Andy Woods goal sealed the win for Corsham.

Elsewhere in the Knockout Cup, top-flight Pheasant were 7-1 up at third division leaders Buttercross when their match at Sutton Benger was abandoned due to the weather.

Conner Laidlaw’s early goal for the Butter Boys was just a consolation as Mark Dolman curled home an instant reply.

Nick Manifold put them 2-1 in front and a trade mark free kick from Max Wyatt made it 3-1 before Dolman headed home his second and Pheasant’s fourth of the first half.

After the break Dolman completed the perfect hat-trick with an excellent right-footed finish, Luke Fisher bent a stunning strike into the top corner and Manifold bagged his second of the contest to make up the seven.

The match at Poulton playing fields between top-flight stablemates FC Bradford and Melksham Town (Sunday) was abandoned at half-time following a serious injury to a Bradford player.

Melksham, who trailed 1-0 to an early Ashley Styles goal, were 4-1 ahead, thanks to Sean Fordham’s double and a goal each for Jordan kirk and Jack Woolsgrove.
