DIVISION ONE WEDNESDAY REPORT: Gladstone’s lead cut to one point

FC JAGER closed the gap on Division One leaders Gladstone Arms after they beat Bromham (Sunday) 6-2 on Wednesday evening, scoring their 18th goal in three games.

For the second week running, Jager used Nursteed Road, home of Devizes Town FC, to ease their April fixture congestion.

Jager took a while to get going but it was worth the wait, as James Eatough scored a magnificent strike from the edge of the 18 yard box.

Jager were soon 2-0 up but rather fortunately, when Dan Moore's cross somehow looped over Bromham’s keeper.

Bromham weren't playing badly however and they deservedly clawed a goal back with a neat counter attack that saw Freddie Paget cleverly poke the ball past the advancing keeper Dave Butler for 2-1.

Jager didn't take long to increase their lead again though, with Eatough finishing well to leave the score 3-1 at half time.

Ten minutes into the second half, Eatough grabbed his hat-trick with a similar goal to his second for 4-1.

At this stage, Jager introduced all three of their subs, including striker Nick Ridout, who was playing his first substantial minutes since breaking his leg almost a year ago.

Ridout gave a great account of himself for 35 minutes and he eased all of his pre match apprehension with a superb goal from distance for 5-1.

Shortly after, Ridout got a second, although not nearly as good as his first.

Bromham still had time to grab a stunner for themselves though.

Dan Powell who performed well all game, drove a superb long range effort into the top corner for 6-2-although it was nothing more than a consolation.
