DIVISION ONE TUESDAY NIGHT REPORT: Jager suffer from Cup hangover

BARRY Holloway’s FC Jager were brought back down to earth following their Wiltshire Sunday Cup win, as a hard-working Biddestone White Horse denied them a much-needed two points in their quest to become Division One champions.

The score ended 1-1 at a very wet Beeches, Shaw and Jager now need to win on Sunday at Crown FC (Rowde) to claim the title on goal difference.

Jager enjoyed the majority of possession for most of the game but failed to turn any of that possession into goals for the whole of the first half.

Gary Higdon came closest for Jager to take the lead with several headers, which barely troubled the Biddestone keeper.

With both teams wasteful in possession, the game remained goalless at half time.

Early into the second half, Jager finally took the lead with a Higdon header that the Biddestone keeper couldn't quite reach as it hit the underside of the bar.

Jager should have really pushed on and put the game to bed at this point but some valiant defending from Biddestone prevented Jager from increasing their lead.

As time ticked on, Biddestone became more threatening and their hard work was forcing Jager into making mistakes in possession.

A fairly tame long ball from the Biddestone defence, caused panic in Jager’s back line and they conceded a needless free kick right on the edge of Jagers box after Scott Fleming had been fouled.

Pete Dennett stepped up and hit an unstoppable drive that flew into the top corner for a well deserved equaliser for Biddestone with 10 minutes remaining.

The final 10 minutes were tricky for Jager knowing that if they conceded another goal and lost, they would be out of the title race.

But despite knowing this, Jager chucked everything they had at Biddestone looking for a winner but their opponents defended superbly in the final minutes to see the game out for a 1-1 draw.
