DIVISION TWO PREVIEW: Stanley Park showdown for top two

HAVING missed out on the chance to close the gap on Division Two leaders Sutton Benger last weekend, Steeple Ashton Rangers travel to Stanley Park on Sunday where the top two teams will go head to head in what is a must-win game for both.

Benger have been in fine form this season and have lost just one of their 13 games.

However seven draws may yet see the miss out on a top two placing.

Benger’s only defeat came on the opening day of the season when they were beaten 2-1 by Ashton, but with revenge on their mind the hosts should win this one or at least claim draw number eight.

Third-placed FC Boroughs were the biggest losers following the withdrawal of Blue Circle and Lavington (Sunday).

But the Malmesbury side, who have been in fine form this term, still have chance of claiming a top-two finish despite losing eight points for victories over the defunct clubs.

Chippenham West End host them and although a Wayne Murden goal earned the West End the points when the sides last met, Boroughs are expected to avenge that.

Miller Sports and Westbury Rangers B fought out a 2-2 draw two months ago and, with the sides set to meet at The Beeches, Shaw this Sunday, the rematch promises to be an interesting encounter.

A win over Steeple Ashton and a draw with leaders Sutton Benger in their last two games means that Rangers have a good chance to extend their unbeaten run to four games to leave their hosts pointless in three. Bottom side Wren FC host Southwick Wanderers who, after a five-match unbeaten run, suffered a thumping 9-2 defeat at the hands of Chippenham West End last weekend.

Southwick, who beat their hosts 3-1 earlier this year, should have few problems in getting back to winning ways with what should be a comfortable victory.
