DIVISION THREE REPORT: Burton three-timer helps GRFC beat Malford

THE only fixture in Division Three this Sunday saw GRFC claim a comfortable 4-1 home win at their Sutton Benger pitch against a below-par Christian Malford to complete a double over the visitors having won the away game 5-4 earlier in the season.

GRFC were the first to put on pressure and after just seven minutes opened the scoring when Robbie Burton ran on to a nice through ball from Sam Myles and beat the advancing keeper with a low shot to give GRFC a 1-0 lead.

Malford did try to hit back with both Scott Evans and Declan Flood going close.

GRFC however also were causing the Malford defence problems with both Robbie Burton and Jordan Tarrant a constant threat.

There was no further score however and GRFC went in at half time with their 1-0 lead.

Malford looked sluggish at the start of the second half, whilst GRFC were continuing to cause problems.

After 55 minutes Connor Laidlaw shot rebounded to Robbie Burton whose own effort hit the post, the rebound fell to Sam Myles who slotted home his first of the season to give GRFC a 2-0 lead.

On 73 minutes Robbie Burton collected another through ball and again beat the keeper to score his second to give GRFC a 3-0 lead.

After 80 minutes Burton completed his hat-trick when a Malford mis-kick left him in open in front of goal from which he made no mistake.

Malford managed to pull a goal back a minute later when a long clearance from Malford stand in keeper Jamie Frayling was headed on by Peter Angell to Scott Evans, who beat the advancing GRFC keeper Matt Watchman with a low shot to reduce GRFC’s lead to 4-1 But with the damage done Tam Laidlaw’s side ran out easy winners.
