DIVISION FOUR: Fortune Inn clinch runners-up spot
5:30pm Monday 2nd April 2012 in Div 4
CHIPPENHAM-BASED Fortune Inn clinched the runners-up spot in Division Four following their 2-0 success at Buscots FC, who were the only side who could have prevented Budge Hyland's side from claiming the second promotion place with champions PSC Galaxy.
For Buscots, it was their first defeat in nine games and brought an end to manager Andrew Webster’s winning run since he took charge of the club back in December. Ryan Kubilius scored in the first half and the league’s top scored Richie Bolter sealed the victory in the second half when he notched his 47th goal of the campaign to make it 2-0.
FC North Wiltshire 7 The Mallard FC 0
FC NORTH Wiltshire thought The Mallard were playing an April Fool's joke when on arrival at Leafy Lane they said they only had nine players.
But, unfortunately for The Mallard, they were short of numbers for the final game of North Wilts inaugural season.
North Wilts knew they needed a seven-goal margin to end up with a neutral goal difference, and there confidence was already high following a recent 7-1 away win at The Mallard, but knowing they only faced nine only went to help their cause.
The Mallard did play a great game all things considering, putting in plenty of effort and running, but it was all too comfortable for North Wilts.
First-half goals for Ryan Bailey, Daniel Deacon and Simon Gray’s double made it 4-0 at the break.
In the second half, goals from Adrian Appleton, another from Daniel Deacon, and a cracking 30 yard strike from Daniel Jackson lead to the 7-0 victory.
The game was played in great spirits, and it bought the end to a successful season for North Wilts, who would have settled with a sixth place finish considering they lost their first eight games.
For The Mallard, they will now hope they can avoid the wooden spoon, which looks likely considering the goal difference between them at current bottom place The Spartans.
PSC Galaxy 17 Spartans FC 2
AS PREDICTED champions PSC Galaxy completed their campaign by maintaining their 100 per cent record with a 17-2 victory over basement side Spartans FC who were put to the sword in the second period of their match after conceding just five in the opening 45 minutes.
Steven House scored a first-half treble and along with a goal apiece from Ashley Huntley and Ben Mason they paved the way for the second half onslaught that saw House bag another seven to take his tally for the game to 10.
Ashley Huntley netted two more to claim a hat-trick, singles from Alex Surman, Peter Huntley and Matthew Tilley completed the 17.
Alan Woodward, who scored with a 30 yard volley, and Tom Webb replied for a Spartans outfit who despite their heavy loss never gave up and kept going until the final whistle.
