PREMIER DIVISION REPORT: Semington win battle to beat the drop
2:00pm Monday 19th March 2012 in Sport
SEMINGTON Rovers secured their Premier Division status for another season after their 4-2 win at fellow strugglers AFC Bell saw them continue their recent revival that has yielded three straight victories.
Andy Harrison broke the deadlock for Semington midway through the first half but Bell’s response was almost immediate and Craig Townsend fired his first of the game to bring Bell level.
Semington regained the lead via Kelvin Lockwood who got on the end of a Richard Allum cross to fire the villagers in front.
Semington made it 3-1 in the second half courtesy a back post header from Nick Mead who nodded home a Andy Harrison cross.
A hotly-disputed penalty which was converted by Craig Townsend saw Bell reduce the gap to the odd goal but they were unable to add to Townsend’s double and a 25 yard lob from Matty Russell wrapped up two more valuable points for Allan Clarke’s side.
Biddestone Social 12 Winsley 1
DEFENDING champions Biddestone Social closed the gap on leaders FC Bradford to three points following their 12-1 victory over Winsley, who played the whole game with 10 players.
Dan Lardner scored on six minutes when he followed up a Nat Auckland shot to put Biddestone in front. Lardner made it 2-0 on 14 minutes when he knocked in a Gary Banks cross.
Banks himself scored the third when he headed in a Rob Pocock cross.
Danny Jones made it 4-0 on 29 minutes turning in a Lardner cross from six yards.
Biddestone had to wait until the 48th minute before scoring again, Banks heading in a Kieran Baggs cross.
Banks completed his hat-trick two minutes later and a minute after that Mickey Baggs planed home an Auckland cross for 7-0.
Lardner took his tally for the morning to three when he lobbed home on 61 minutes.
Auckland, Banks and two more from Lardner made up Biddestone’s dozen.
Ricardo Kerr replied for Winsley.
