AFTER coming through several games with a makeshift strike force, Chippenham’s shortage of out-and-out goalscorers was highlighted against Corby Town .

Despite dominating the second half, the Bluebirds failed to force keeper Paul Walker into making a single save.

Neither side managed a shot on target until the 20th minute when Spencer Weir-Daley’s snap-shot proved decisive. The Corby striker found the ball at his feet 20 yards from goal and pulled back the trigger before firing in a low shot that gave Kent Kauppinen no chance.

The Bluebirds' only offerings of the first half saw off target efforts from Conor McCormack and Matt Jones, whilst the visitors also saw several chances go begging.

After the break Chippenham laid siege to the Corby goal but lacked the penetration to unlock the Steelmen’s defence. Darren Edwards saw his shot on the turn hit a visiting defender, whilst a late shot from Mark Preece met a similar fate.

Corby rubbed salt into the wound a minute from time when the ball was cleared to Weir-Daley who picked out Shane Byrne whose shot came back off the inside of a post to leave Weir-Daley with the simple task of tapping home his second.
