CHIPPENHAM Town chief Mark Collier is looking for a “complete performance” when his side kick off a busy December schedule away at Cambridge City on Saturday.

Both teams are currently battling it out in mid-table but Town can climb above their hosts with victory at Histon’s Bridge Road ground.

The Bluebirds are then straight back on the road on Monday as they travel to Hitchin Town and have a further three fixtures scheduled before the New Year.

“We think we can beat anyone in the league but we have played in fits and starts so far this season,” said Collier, whose side drew 0-0 at Burnham last weekend.

“We need to start playing for the full 90 minutes. I’m looking for a complete performance.

“We understand that Cambridge are normally in the play-off positions and we’d expect them to be up there again before the end of the season.

“It’s always a difficult place to go but it’s a good pitch and we’ll hopefully go there and give them a good game.

“December is a busy month and the games come thick and fast. We play Saturday and then have to travel straight back up the motorway on Monday.

“But our focus is first and foremost on Cambridge and hopefully we can go there with a strong squad.”

Matt Coupe is the only player unavailable to Collier for the trip as the defender starts a three-match ban.

Lee Phillips could return to the matchday squad following injury and fellow striker Alan Griffin is also nearing full fitness.

“We could have given them another run out for the Park side in midweek but chose to give them a bit more rest time instead,” added Collier.

Chippenham extended their unbeaten league run to a fifth game last Saturday but failed to make the most of their chances in a goalless draw at home to lowly Burnham.

The Bluebirds started in the ascendancy but Mark Francis saw two good opportunities go begging.

Town did have the ball in the net before the break after Luke Ballinger’s header came back off the Bashley keeper for Alex Ferguson to tuck home but he was deemed to have strayed into an offside position and the effort was ruled out.

The two sides then cancelled each other out for long periods in the second half and although Chippenham had chances to snatch the points late on through Griffin and Ballinger, again they went begging.

“Overall I think a draw was probably a fair result,” said Collier.

“They were much better than a team near the bottom of the league and I wouldn’t expect them to be there come the end of the season.

“We started well and carved out a couple of chances in the first 25 minutes but you need to capitalise when you’re on top.

“After the break they changed their system and made it difficult for us so it was pretty even after that.

“We had a few more chances at the end but Kent Kauppinen made a couple of decent saves in goal for us as well, so they probably deserved to finish with a draw.”

Fringe duo George Pawley and Ben McCready have been released by the Bluebirds.

Former Frome Town striker Pawley, 21, signed in August and scored the equaliser at Cirencester Town in September.

Former Thatcham Town and North Leigh midfielder McCready, 23, made just a handful of appearances and had recently been sidelined with an ankle fracture.
