CHIPPENHAM extended their unbeaten league run with their fifth draw in six matches.

The Bluebirds were boosted with a place in the starting XI for Alan Griffin and, after soaking up early Cambridge pressure, they took the lead on 20 minutes.

Conor McCormack’s fierce drive was only parried by City’s keeper and from the resulting corner centre back Mark Preece rose at the far post to head home.

Chippenham almost repeated the move as Alex Ferguson’s shot also drew a corner, but from the resulting flag kick an assistant ruled offside.

Cambridge offered little threat to Kent Kauppinen’s goal in the opening 45 minutes, the Bluebirds keeper making only one save from a controversial City free kick.

Before the break, two Guthrie free kick’s almost doubled the lead. The first saw Jordan Roberts head wide whilst the second beat the home wall but was saved.

After the break, Chippenham lost McCormack to a leg injury and he was replaced by Toby Osman.

Cambridge equalised against the run of play when a cross from the right was converted by Buster Harradine a quarter of an hour from time.

Chippenham almost regained the lead ten minutes from time when Roberts hit the cross bar and Griffin failed with a late effort.
