CHIPPENHAM Town may be the Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Division’s current draw specialists but Iain Harvey is keen to focus on the positives of his side’s recent unbeaten run.

The Bluebirds notched up their fifth straight stalemate in the league, their third of which has ended 1-1, as they picked up a point at Hitchin Town on Monday night.

Mark Collier’s men have gone a month without tasting victory but Harvey reckons that their run of draws demonstrates just how tough a nut they’re proving to crack.

“I think it was a good point,” said the midfielder.

“We’ve drawn a lot of games now but the thing is, we look like we aren’t going to get beaten at the moment – I think the back four is looking really solid.

“Especially against Cambridge (the Bluebirds drew 1-1 at City last Saturday), they’ve been games where we’ve looked like we were going to win and it’s been snatched away from us.

“It would have been nice if we’d manage to pick up a few wins in some of those games but at the same time, it’s good that we’re not being beaten.

“People are getting back to fitness and we’ve got a lot of attacking options now, so things are looking good at the moment.”

Chippenham captain Alan Griffin put the visitors in front with nine minutes on the clock, turning home from a pass from strike partner Mark Francis to net his first goal since returning from long-term injury.

James Guthrie and Mark Preece both went close to extending the Bluebirds’ lead whilst Jonny McNamara and Brett Donnelly both threatened for Hitchin.

The Canaries got their equaliser seven minutes into the second period when Donnelly and Nat Peacock combined to set up McNamara, who fired home across Chippenham keeper Kent Kauppinen.
