A SUPERB defensive display in which goalkeeper Kent Kauppinen was outstanding, saw Chippenham Town take all three points with another brace from Ashan Holgate.

Holgate’s strikes were the only two chances that Chippenham created all game and they were the former Swindon Town man’s third and fourth goals in two games for the Bluebirds.

Former Chippenham players Ellis Dunton and Ian Herring had both threatened Chippenham’s goal before the Centurions were awarded a 39th-minute penalty by referee Sam Allison, the former Chippenham player.

Jon Beeden was deemed to have fouled Josh Parsons, although many in the ground thought the Cirencester man was backing into Beeden. However, justice was done when Kauppinen dived to his left to superbly save Parsons’ spot kick.

The Gloucestershire side started the second half brightly with Herring heading wide and Kauppinen tipping over Gethin Jones’s header.

The Bluebirds took the lead on the hour when Michael Pook’s long throw was headed on for Holgate to neatly head inside the far post.

Seven minutes later the lead was doubled as Holgate thumped home a volley from substitute Lee Phillips’ cross.

Kauppinen continued to save Chippenham as he again thwarted Dunton. The Bluebirds keeper was finally beaten in the first minute of stoppage time when he dived to keep out a Parsons free kick but substitute Nat Jarvis was first to the loose ball and converted from close in.
