CHIPPENHAM Town chief Mark Collier thought that his team were well worth all three points as they clinically dispatched local rivals Cirencester Town on Saturday.

Ashan Holgate hit a match-winning brace for the second match in a row, taking advantage of his team’s only two clear-cut opportunities of the match.

At the other end, goalkeeper Kent Kauppinen made a number of saves, including one from the penalty spot, to ensure that Chippenham got the better of a side containing former Bluebirds Ian Herring and Ellis Dunton.

“At the end of the day, you win football matches by scoring the most goals and that’s what we’ve done,” said Collier.

“Cirencester are a decent side and it wasn’t all that long ago that they were second in the league.

“Kent’s pulled off some decent saves in the first half but they were more shots from outside the area, rather than one-on-one chances – they’re saves you’d expect him to make.

“They certainly were the better side in the first half but we got numbers in midfield in the second half and I thought we were on top then.

“We’ve scored two good goals and I think we were well deserving of all three points. That’s two wins in a row after a decent point at Hungerford and hopefully, when we get bodies back, we’ll be in good shape.”

Former Chippenham man Sam Allison took proceedings of the clash and penalised the Bluebirds’ Jon Beeden for pressurising Josh Parsons in the area with 39 minutes on the clock.

Parsons took the spot-kick himself but Kauppinen dived to his left to keep out the penalty and maintain parity.

Holgate opened the scoring on the hour mark as he nodded home from Michael Pook’s long throw before grabbing his and his side’s second as he thumped home a volley from substitute Lee Phillips’ delivery.

Cirencester pulled a goal back in stoppage time when, after Kauppinen dived to keep out a Parsons free-kick, Nat Jarvis was first to the loose ball and converted from close range.

The Bluebirds are due to travel to Poole Town next Tuesday evening and should welcome back Jordan Roberts and Luke Ballinger.

Conor McCormack and Ryan Campbell are still ruled out through injury.
