MARK Collier is enjoying watching the strike partnership of Charlie Griffin and Ashan Holgate blossom after the two hitmen fired Chippenham Town to success at Chesham United on Saturday.

Griffin slammed home his third brace in four matches for the Bluebirds as they downed the Generals, while the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division win was sealed with Holgate's injury-time goal at the Meadow.

Since Griffin's return to Hardenhuish Park at end of February from Conference North side Gloucester City, he and Holgate have bagged eight goals in four games, with the former grabbing six of them.

And while knowing that this partnership is it's infancy, Collier is excited about the future.

"This is becoming a good little partnership," Collier said. "They look after each other. They are two big men who hold the ball up well.

"They may not be the type of strikers who can run in behind defences but they can protect the ball to allow others to do that."

After a goalless first half in Buckinghamshire, Griffin lobbed Chesham goalie Shane Gore to fire the Bluebirds into the lead within four minutes of the restart.

Two minutes later, hesistation in the Generals back-line allowed the striker to volley home his sixth goal since his return before Chippenham continued to dominate proceedings at Chesham, with the gloss added in the first minute of injury-time by Holgate.

"It was a good performance, " manager Collier said.

"We had to play against the elements in the first half and I knew that it we would be in a good position to get in at half-time level.

"We did have a couple of good chances in the first half, both Charlie and James Guthrie went close.

"Once the second goal went in, it killed the game off and then we were comfortable for the rest of the match."
