CHIPPENHAM Town have solved their striker hunt by signing former Newport County captain Andy Sandell.

The 31-year-old left-footer, from Calne, was released by League Two Newport in May and despite playing the majority of his career at full-back or on the wing, Sandell will operate up top for Mark Collier’s Bluebirds.

After leaving Wycombe Wanderers in 2011, Sandell, who also plays cricket locally, had a brief spell with Chippenham, eventually joining Welsh outfit Newport early in 2012 and helping the club clinch promotion from the Conference National.

Sandell has also featured for Aldershot Town, Bristol Rovers and Salisbury City.

Hardenhuish Park boss Collier said: “Andy was our number one target as a striker and he will bring goals, experience, knowledge; and will be a fantastic addition to the club.

“Andy has played wide left back but his main position is striker. During his time at these clubs, he has scored 27 goals.”
