A NEAR-FLAWLESS pre-season campaign won’t leave manager Mark Collier resting on his laurels as he prepares to lead Chippenham Town into the new Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Division season.
The Bluebirds won all their friendlies this summer, most recently beating Calne Town 4-2 to retain the Fred Rutty Cup on Saturday thanks to goals an Alex Ferguson brace and goals from Mark Francis and Lee Phillips, but Collier thinks that will count for nothing when Chippenham travel to Dunstable Town for Saturday’s curtain-raiser.
“Teams can win all their friendlies and then lose their first four league games, so we’re not taking anything for granted,” said the Bluebirds boss.
“We purposely didn’t arrange as many friendlies this season so that the players were fresh for the first game of the season and I think we’re in a better position than we were this time last year.”
Young midfielder Ryan Campbell is expected to shake off a calf strain for the trip to Dunstable.
