CHIPPENHAM Town are the early pace setters in the Southern Premier Division after a 5-0 win at home to Bedworth United.

Town hit five goals for the first time since August 2013, as they continued their 100 per cent record in fine fashion.

Andy Sandell took his goal tally to five in three games, whilst there was a first in a Bluebird shirt for Ryan Campbell.

Alex Ferguson opened his account for the season, with centre back Mark Preece completing the rout.

“We’re delighted with that,” said manager Mark Collier.

“We still think we are not quite where we want to be, but the team is slowly evolving the way we want to play and we are certainly looking an attacking threat.

“We’re scoring goals, we’re creating chances and when the chances come along we are taking them so at this moment in time things are going our way.

“The good thing now is we are looking like we are going to score, so as long as we keep it tight at the back we’ll be in with a chance.

“We are pleased with the start; however we know there will be some bigger tests to come.”

Luke Ballinger was the only change in the starting XI as he replaced the injured Conor McCormack and the hosts were on the front foot early on.

Town opened the scoring after six minutes when Denham Hinds failed to hold Ashan Holgate’s shot and Sandell pounced to slide the ball home.

On 29 minutes it was two as Matt Smith’s cross from the right saw Sandell climb and head the ball back across Hinds into the top corner.

Chippenham increased their lead on 55 minutes from a Michael Pook corner, when Hinds could only get a hand to Greg Tindle’s header and Ferguson fired home.

On 69 minutes a mistake by Bedworth defender Chris Tullins allowed Ferguson to cross for substitute Campbell to fire home from 15 yards with his first touch of the game.

Town wrapped up the scoring on 85 minutes as Preece headed in from a Matt Jones free-kick, to the delight of Collier.

“That is five he has got in the first three games, so you can ask for no more from your striker,” added the Bluebirds boss.

“Ferguson was on the end of things yesterday and has got himself a goal, unfortunate not to get himself a couple.

“Ryan Campbell has come on and got himself a goal as well, which is particularly pleasing because it was a fantastic finish from him.

“It was as good a day as we could expect.

“I think I said to the boys after that we were at seven and a half out of 10 on yesterday, so to win 5-0 and still not be at our best is very pleasing.”
