CHIPPENHAM Town are the early pace-setters in the Southern Premier Division courtesy of a 100 per cent record across their opening four fixtures.

Town hit five goals for the first time since August 2013 on Saturday to see off Bedworth United, before travelling to Poole Town to maintain their two-point cushion at the top of the table.

“We’re delighted with that,” said manager Mark Collier.

“We still think we are not quite where we want to be, but the team is slowly evolving the way we want to play and we are certainly looking an attacking threat.

“We’re scoring goals, we’re creating chances and when the chances come along, we are taking them, so at this moment in time, things are going our way.

“The good thing now is we are looking like we are going to score, so as long as we keep it tight at the back we’ll be in with a chance.”

Town opened the scoring against Bedford after six minutes when Denham Hinds failed to hold Matt Smith’s shot and Sandell pounced.

On 29 minutes, it was two as Smith’s cross from the right saw Sandell climb and head the ball home.

Chippenham scored a fourth on 55 minutes through Alex Ferguson, before substitute Ryan Campbell fired home with his first touch.

Town wrapped up the scoring on 85 minutes as Mark Preece headed in from a Matt Jones free-kick.

Collier now turns his attentions to Saturday’s game against Histon and will have to check on the fitness of Sandell (knee), Conor McCormack (hamstring) and Greg Tindle (ankle) ahead of the trip.

“We’ve got a couple of injury concerns, so we will get those sorted and go again on Saturday,” he added.

“The Poole result has gone now. There are three points on offer at Histon and we will do we can to get three more points.

“They conceded seven goals on Tuesday night, which sometimes is not good news because there is obviously the backlash. However, their confidence will be low, ours is very high and we need to worry about ourselves.”
