MEMBERS of Chippenham Town’s 2000 FA Vase Wembley team, as well as players from around the county will come together for a special veterans’ match next March.

The event is being organised by the family and friends of former Bluebirds assistant boss and Corsham chief Colin Bush, who is undergoing chemotherapy after being diagnosed with the early stages of Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma, and will raise money for the Bloodwise charity, which helps people diagnosed with blood cancer.

The game, to take place at Corsham Town’s Southbank ground on March 9 (7.30pm), will see a Chippenham Town veterans side take on a Corsham veterans XI.

Former players from Wimbledon, Bath City, Weston Super mere, Trowbridge Town, Melksham Town, Calne Town, Westbury United, Devizes Town that Bush has either played with and managed during his career will join members of Chippenham’s 2000 Wembley team, of whom Bush was assistant manager alongside boss Tommy Saunders.

The popular Bush, known affectionately as Nobby, also managed Corsham Town for four years from 2004, guiding them to the Western League Premier Division title in 2006-07.

His son Carl said: “Dad is doing okay and is scheduled to complete six chemotherapy sessions which end in November “Early diagnosis is vitally important to ensure the best possible chance of treating the Cancer effectively and being cured.By supporting these charities and supporting this particular event we can ensure that more time and research can be spent finding a cure for this disease which affects millions worldwide.’’ Bush’s family and friends will also being completing the Three Peaks Challenge in 24 hours in April to raise money.
