MARK Collier admitted Chippenham Town's 4-3 Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Division win over Leamington was "heart attack stuff'' as his side stayed clear of the chasing pack in second spot in the table.

The Bluebirds hit four goals for the second week in a row, but still had to endure a nail-biting finale as their Midlands visitors regained parity from a two-goal deficit once and threatened to do so again after the home side had restored their advantage.

Andy Sandell's powerful header and Alan Griffin's poacher's finish had Collier's men in the ascendancy at half time but, by the mid-point of the second period, Leamington were all square as Jack Edwards and Ben Mackey responded.

Alex Ferguson's close-range finish and Griffin's second appeared to have wrapped up the points for the home side but Jamie Tank's late header kept the nerves jangling until the final whistle.

"There were a few hairy moments and it shows just how far we've come that the boys were disappointed in the changing room afterwards because we had conceded three goals,'' said Collier.

"The game started quite well for us in what were difficult conditions and we controlled the second part of the first half and got ourselves two goals up.

"We said at half time that the next goal would be the most important one and it turned out to be them that got it and then they equalised.

"But I'm pleased with the lads. They showed some good character to come back from that and get themselves 4-2 in front again, even though it was a bit tight at the end.''

Collier added: "We're going to have show those facets of our game to be in with a shout of those play-offs because Leamington were certainly one of those teams who you would think would be in the play-offs.''

Chippenham face a trip to Wales to take on Merthyr Town in the Red Insure Cup third round on Tuesday evening but with a long trip to St Neots Town next weekend looming, Collier admits he will give some of his team a rest in midweek.

"I'll rest quite a few of the squad,'' added the manager, who revealed he has seven-day approaches in for a couple of players.

"We're fairly injury-free and Ollie Taylor, who had a bit of flu should come back next wee but St Neots next weekend will be a tough game.

"They are one of the sides with a decent budget and I don't think they will be staying in the bottom half of the table for the rest of the season.''
