MARK Collier hopes that "all bases are covered'' for Chippenham Town's Southern League Premier Division run-in after snapping up wide man Alec Fiddes until the end of the season this afternoon.

The 22 year old former Weymouth and Weston-super-Mare ace, who has been playing at Division One South & West Yate Town, will go straight into the squad for tomorrow night's league clash with Chesham United.

Collier revealed that Town had been tracking Bristol University student Fiddes for some time and nearly signed the midfielder, who also spent time playing in Spain, at the start of the current campaign.

"We've been on his case for a while and he nearly came to us at the start of the season,'' said Collier.

"At that time, Craig Laird became manager at Yate and, having played for him before, Alec decided he would go with them.

"He can play wide right, wide left or behind the front two. Hopefully, that means all our bases are covered for the end of the season now.''

Striker Andy Sandell and Leigh Henry, who only signed for the Bluebirds last week, are set to miss tomorrow night's game - the first of back-to-back appointments with Chesham - as they nurse hamstring niggles.

The Bluebirds were leapfrogged into second place by Redditch on Saturday and with four home league games left, Collier is determined to maximise his side's promotion chances.

"Three points will be key,'' he added. "I think we've got four home games left so if we can get 12 points out of them, hopefully that will set us up nicely.''
