CHIPPENHAM Town recorded their first win of the season as they secured a 4-1 win away to Weymouth on Tuesday night.

The Bluebirds put on a sparkling performance as three goals in the first half saw the visitors out of sight by half time.

The second period was almost as dominant, with Matt Smith netting Chippenham’s fourth, but Weymouth gave the scoreline an air of respectability with a late goal from Chris Shepherd.

The opening goal came on six minutes when Nuno Felix broke up a home attack and played a central ball to James Guthrie.

He proceeded to play a low through ball to Matt Smith, who ran on to beat ‘keeper Jason Matthews with a low shot.

As the Bluebirds continued to out-pass their hosts, with further chances falling to Andy Sandell, Smith and Dave Pratt.

Chippenham doubled their lead in the 24th minute when Guthrie launched a deep free kick that was met by the incoming Sandell to head home.

Seven minutes later, the Bluebirds wrapped the match up with a third as Pratt was sent tumbling in the area by Dean Evans and Sandell converted the resultant penalty.

Before the interval, the hardworking Pratt headed against the side netting and also ran on to a long throw by Sandell but as he prepared to shoot he was bundled to the ground, however, appeals for a second penalty were waved away.

After the interval, the Terras finally threatened the Bluebirds goal as Mark Cooper's shot deflected off Michael Pook and went narrowly wide.

In the 54th minute, Smith scored the pick of the goals as Alex Ferguson rolled him a square pass which Smith fired home from forty yards.

As Chippenham took their foot off the gas, Weymouth came back into the game and in the 72nd minute, Shepherd drew a fine diving save from Kent Kauppinen.

Nine minutes from time, Shepherd let fly from the edge of the area with a low shot that gave Kauppinen no chance.
