CHIPPENHAM Town put their two cup defeats of the previous week behind them as they went nap against Cambridge City.

Only some smart saves and the woodwork prevented the Bluebirds recording double figures as they ruthlessly despatched their relegation-threatened visitors.

Chippenham twice went close in the opening quarter of an hour as Enol Ordonez touched over a shot from Will Richards and Matt Smith hit the cross bar.

The deadlock was broken on 21 minutes when Andy Sandell firmly headed home a corner from the returning James Guthrie.

Five minutes into the second half a superb run by Dave Pratt saw him cut in from the left and his low cross took out Ordonez leaving Smith free to hit Chippenham’s second from six yards out.

A minute later Pratt was clear on goal but the ball skewed off the outside of his boot.

On the hour mark Pratt was crudely fouled in the area by Ordonez who was fortunate to only receive a yellow card; Sandell thundering home the resultant penalty.

Ordonez then just managed to touch away an effort from Pratt and recovered to save Guthrie’s fierce drive.

The Cambridge custodian was again to the fore as he saved successive efforts from Pratt and Alex Ferguson.

Will Richards hit the Bluebirds' fourth when he headed home a Matt Jones corner seven minutes from time.

Pratt made it nap three minutes later after good work by Ferguson allowed him to squeeze a shot between Ordonez and a post.

Three minutes from time a vicious shot from substitute Jones thundered against a post as Chippenham sent the Hardenhuish faithful home happy.
