MARK Collier sees no reason why his Chippenham Town side should lose their nerve as the Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Division title comes tantalisingly into view.

Saturday's 2-0 triumph over Biggleswade Town at Hardenhuish Park, coupled with second-placed Leamington's surprise 1-0 defeat at home to Frome Town, strengthened the Bluebirds' lead at the top of the table to six points.

With four games to go, Collier's troops need seven points to wrap up the silverware and a stunning promotion to Conference South football next season.

The Wiltshire men are on an astonishing run of form, the Biggleswade success making it 22 games unbeaten, and Collier points to that record as cause for optimism that his men can see it through.

"We've proved that the league table doesn't lie. The players are in great form and the fitness is good,'' said Collier.

"We have to make sure we deal with it properly. We still know there is a bit of work to be done but there is no denying that we're in a good place.

"We have difficult games ahead of us so we'll keep out feet on the ground.''

A first goal of the season for captain Greg Tindle put the home side ahead in the first half and defender Rhys Baggridge got on the scoresheet for the first time for the club to wrap up the three points in the second half.

And there was even better news awaiting the home side when they retired to the changing rooms as news of Leamington's loss filtered through - despite some late drama.

"It was a good day,'' added Collier. "To get the win was particularly pleasing but then we got back in and heard that Leamington were losing.

"The lads were following updates and then we saw they had got a penalty in the 94th minute. Garry Horgan said that they had missed it but we didn't know for sure until the chairman (Neil Blackmore) came in and told us.

"It was a little bit extra special and another massive three points.''

The manager, whose side take on play-off hopefuls Hitchin next weekend, added: "It was a difficult game because they (Biggleswade) were in good form.

"We managed to get that first goal which was important because we knew we would be playing up the slope in the second half.

"What's good is that we've tried to play football but when we've had to find another way, we've maybe taken a pass out and gone a little bit more direct.

"We've kept grinding out results and we need to keep doing that now. Leamington can't afford to drop too many more points and they have some difficult games coming up.''
