CHIPPENHAM Town duly set a new Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Division record of 103 points, courtesy of two first-half goals from Dave Pratt and Matt Smith.

The gloss was taken off proceedings somewhat when St Ives player Josh Dawkin sustained a double fracture of the leg in a tackle.

The incident happened two minutes before the interval and saw a delay of almost one hour as the first ambulance crew to arrive decided more experienced medics were required to deal with the injury.

The second half was played in a more sombre atmosphere although the final whistle saw jubilant scenes from the home supporters as the Bluebirds were presented with the Championship shield which bore such illustrious past winning names as Millwall, Tottenham Hotspur, QPR and Southampton.

On-loan Bristol City striker Jake Andrews had two chances in the opening five minutes.

His first effort went wide he then charged down an attempted clearance from keeper Tim Trebes only for the ball to roll just wide of the empty goal.

The Bluebirds took the lead on nine minutes when a long throw from Andrews was headed on and Pratt scored with an overhead kick.

Home custodian Darren Chitty was then called into action as he first parried and then fell on Danny Kelly's free kick.

Chippenham lost Dan Bowman midway through the half to a leg injury and he was replaced by Gary Horgan.

Chippenham doubled their lead on 27 minutes when Nuno Felix's free kick was not cleared by the Saints defence and Matt Smith burst between two defenders to plant a left footed shot past Trebes.

Before the break James Guthrie fired over, in the build up Andrews appeared to be kicked in the area but claims for a penalty were ignored.

A minute after the break Andrews was felled twice in quick succession in the area; referee Simon Wales ignored the first challenge but the second saw him point to the penalty spot only for his assistant to raise his flag for offside.

Little then happened until the hour mark when Andrews's shot was deflected to Trebes.

Midway through the second half Chitty was called into action as he saved Jordan Jarrold's swerving shot. Andrews then slipped in the act of shooting and his effort lacked the necessary power to trouble Trebes.

On 74 minutes Pratt's angled shot again saw a deflection to the Saints keeper, whilst nine minutes later Andrews charged down an attempted clearance on the half way line setting Pratt racing clear but his shot from a tight angle went across goal and past the far post.

The league's leading scorer Andy Sandell made a cameo appearance for the last two minutes before the final whistle sparked scenes of celebration which included 20 members of the Chippenham Town Norwegian branch of the supporters' club.
