Corsham bounce back with a win

Chippenham Sunday League Division Four

Table-toppers Corsham Centre B returned to action after a two week lay off as visitors to Chippenham West End and came away with another vital two points in the race for the title, overcoming their hosts by a scoreline of 2-0 to increase their unbeaten run to 18 matches.

Tom Lye and captain Richard Boore scored for the Centre Kings Arms were involved in the second goalless draw in as many weeks as the held Somerford FC to a 0-0 encounter and it was their goalkeeper Kurtis Marsden who took all the plaudits as he was a gain outstanding to deny a Somerford side on many occasions which included a brilliant second half penalty save to deny Scott Hatton scoring what would have been a cruel winner for Somerford.

North Star B maintained their interest in the title race with a convincing 8-0 victory over Trowbridge based Westbridge Re-United who had been expected to give their Calne based hosts a good game, Mark Dolman took his tally for the season to 54 with a four timer, Steve Allison scored two, Pete Thornton and Paul Green scored one each to make up the eight.

Melksham Jagerbar continued their good form with a battling 3-2 win over Old Road Tavern, who put in a valiant effort and gave the in-form Melksham side a scare. Rob Jefferies put Old Road ahead, before goals from Nathan Walker, Mike Hopkins and Emilio Menghini gave Jagerbar a 3-1 lead, but Scott Nash had the final say when he added a second late on for the Old Road.

Clive Black’s White Horse extended their unbeaten run to six matches with a comfortable 4-1 home win over Chippenham United RAOB who took a first half lead against the run of play on 39 minutes through Jason Forde.

White Horse drew level through Mark Pugh. Andy Cahill scored a brace and Andy Field knocked home number four, three minutes from time.
