Players injured in car crash
Lance Davis
Lance Davis

Trowbridge Town Supporters' Club postponed the eagerly awaited contest against leaders Steeple Ashton Rangers due to a shortage of players.

The supporters' club manager Williams regretted his decision to have to call the game off but with five players running in the Bath half-marathon and other key players unavailable for various reasons.

Williams wasn't prepared to field what would have been a very understrength side for such an important match, but had Williams waited 48 hours he could have postponed the game due to a waterlogged pitch at his sides Bratton base.

Second-placed Riverside Renegades were involved in an eventful build-up to their match away at Goatacre against bottom of the table AFC Lyneham.

Riverside manager Lance Davis was in a car that was involved in an accident on the way to the pitch, but unknown to Davis, who was able to take part in the match, behind him a few Lyneham players were also involved in another accident.

Unluckily for Lyneham they had to start the game with only nine players due the accident and although goalkeeper Jason Trout, who suffered a head injury in the crash, started the game another blow to the head in the second period of the match led to him retiring from the game so they finished the game with just eight men on the park.

It was therefore no surprise that Lyneham eventually crashed to a 20-0 defeat but in doing so they received great praise from their opponents as they never gave up and were a credit to themselves and the league.

Joe Taylor top scored for Riverside with a five timer, Lance Davis scored four, with one of his goals being helped home with an assist from Lyneham defender James Williams. Jake Jordan scored a hat-trick and Ashley Styles and Ricky Montacute scored two apiece. Joe Liddel scored his first goal for the club, Lee Ridout and substitute Oli Robinson scored one each and the 20 was completed by Hayden Sheffield who scored an unfortunate own goal.

Old Road Tavern 2, Corsham United 4

CORSHAM United claimed their first victory in eight matches with a 4-2 success away at Old Road Tavern, whose manager Bernie Court was full of praise for referee Gareth Gibbs who could easily have pulled the plug on the match as the conditions at Tavern's pitch in Sutton Benger deteriorated at the game progressed.

Corsham United saw a welcome return for Tony Druitt who came down from Cheltenham for the game and should be available until the end of April before he returns to Australia.

Corsham United saw leading scorer Joe Pritchard and Dominic Reid hit the woodwork before Druitt gave them the lead with a good finish. Druitt made it 2-0 with a fantastic 25 yard strike and when Alex Mitchell senior added number three, Corsham United had the game won, but they suffered injuries either side of the break that could have hampered their second half display.

First they lost two goal hero Druitt and then they lost striker Pritchard, but despite the handicap they managed to secure the win before the Tavern staged a brief fight back.

Dominic Reid bagged Corsham's fourth with a delightful finish but that seemed to spark Tavern's revival, with Fabian Prangle scoring the goals. The first was a good finish and the second saw him pounce on an error by Corsham's keeper who dropped the ball at his feet for a simple tap-in.

Tavern huffed and puffed looking for further goals but Corsham's defence weren't to be beaten again as they held out to claim their 4-2 triumph.

Somerford were set to welcome Three Crowns United but if any confirmation was needed as to the amount of rain that had fallen in the area it could be found at Somerford where the normally reliable pitch was underwater.

In an attempt to get the match played both teams agreed to play the match on the artificial pitch in Hullavington. This would have been a first for the league and the result of the match might not even as counted as the legality of playing the match would have been dealt with after the event, however when both teams and the referee turned up at the pitch that was also flooded.

Kings Arms (Market Lavington) also saw their home match with Wanderers washed out.
