AFC Bell ready to mount promotion challenge

DIVISION THREE: With AFC Bell the only team from the top four in Division Three with a game, they have a great chance of moving within two points of AFC Melksham, who are currently in third spot.

Leaders Biddestone White Horse will be pleased they have a free weekend as they still have six of their key players on holiday. Second placed Pheasant FC would have fancied their chance of regaining top spot but they have been denied the opportunity by Corsham Park Rangers who are unable to raise a team for the planned game at Leafy Lane due to one of their players getting married.

AFC Bell v Churchill Arms

CRAIG Townsend's Devizes-based AFC Bell side are scheduled to entertain Churchill Arms and the pub side from West Lavington will have their 7-0 loss from the opening day of the season still ringing in their ears when the sides clash at Green Lane.

AFC Bell have turned their home pitch into something of a fortress since they joined the league in 2006 and they have yet to lose any of the 17 matches they have played there and are on a run of 14 straight victories.

AFC Bell will be hoping to boost their chances of claiming back-to-back promotions with a ninth straight win and that should be a formality on Sunday.

Jonathan Couch netted four goals in that opening day win, Townsend scored twice and Jon Schofield grabbed a single.

Churchill Arms have lost three games on the spin and it is really hard to see anything other than another success for AFC Bell, who have a 100 per cent record over their neighbours and only a miracle will deny the hosts further glory or stop the division's leading scorer Townsend from adding to his 34 goals.

If he can carry on scoring like that he is in line to walk away with the Golden Boot award.

Blue Circle (Sunday) v Pack Horse Rangers

BLUE Circle entertain Pack Horse Rangers at their pitch at the cement works in Westbury and if Steve Martin's side can pick up the points on offer then they will need just one more victory from their remaining eight matches to be certain of avoiding the drop.

Pack Horse are already safe so they can enjoy the remainder of their season and might just start playing the football that saw them lose just one of seven games from the middle of November to the start of February. That fine run included a 2-0 triumph over their hosts as goals from Simon Reid and Martin Rushmore gave them maximum points back in January.

Pack Horse have lost their previous three games while Blue Circle, who have played only four games since the start of the year, have picked up three points from their previous two games and welcome Pack Horse on the back of a 4-3 victory over Churchill Arms.

Blue Circle will be pleased that the fixture is on their own patch as they have lost only one of the seven games they have played at the cement works while they have lost all eight away from home.

Blue Circle should take the spoils to avenge their earlier defeat and the winning margin could be by two or three goals.

Westbury Rangers B v Crown FC

WESTBURY Rangers B will hope that they are given the all-clear to use Meadow Lane for their rematch against the Devizes based Crown FC and Dave Griffin's Rangers side will be going all out to gain revenge for their 3-2 loss from three weeks ago, when goals from Jack Fisher, Jason Lucas and Tom Slater earned Mark Adamson's side their victory.

Sam Young scored both goals for Rangers back then and Griffin will be hoping that he will be able to produce the goods once more, but this time they might be the winning team.

Both sides missed out on a game last weekend, but previous to that Crown defeated title contenders Pheasant, with Dan Sloan doing most of the damage in their 3-2 win. Sloan scored twice and now that he is back in action he will want to make up for lost time after his 35 day suspension.

Sloan, who missed the earlier meeting of the sides, might just make all the difference and should prove a handful for the Rangers defence who might struggle to keep the shackles on the Devizes Town midfielder. If they fail to keep a watchful eye on him he could cause a lot of harm to a Rangers side who have won three on the bounce at home but that record could be about to come to an end as Crown are tipped to complete a quick fire league double over Rangers.
