THE Wiltshire Times and Chippenham News-sponsored Team of the Week award for April 27, 2008, has been awarded to Corsham Park Rangers.
The decision was a close call between Premier Division North Star A and eventual winners Third Division Corsham Park Rangers, who just denied Gary Elliott's Calne-based side their second award of the season.
North Star A bounced back well after their 5-1 midweek defeat at the hands of Bradford News that had sent them back to the foot of the Premier Division with an incredible 7-1 victory over Dog and Fox Ashley.
Michael Bell's 30 yarder put the Star ahead at the interval but nobody could have foreseen what happened in the second half as the Star went goal crazy.
Mark Sharratt made it 2-0 before a double from Pete Thornton moved the score on to 4-0. The Dog and Fox managed to pull a goal back before Sharratt added number five with his second of the game and Thornton sealed his hat-trick with goal number six prior to Dan Allison completing the rout.
But it is Martin Perrett's Third Division Corsham Park Rangers who claim the award for their 1-0 away at Pack Horse Rangers, who had defeated Corsham Park 5-1 earlier in the season. The victory also ended a five match winless run and more importantly earned them a victory that saw them clinch Third Division survival.
Jake Marshall scored the only goal of the game for Corsham Park on 59 minutes when after disposing an opponent of the ball he cracked home a thunderbolt to give Martin Perrett's side only their fifth victory of the season.
