CORSHAM Centre A kept alive their hopes of claiming a third successive
Premier Division title with their second victory inside 48 hours last night.
The Centre, who defeated FC Colerne 7-0 on Tuesday night, followed up that
triumph with an 8-0 victory over relegation threatened North Star A to close
the gap on leaders Biddestone Social to one point.
The Centre made the perfect start when Craig Gingell put them ahead after
three minutes.
Rob Stephens, just back from injury, scored number two in the 15th minute
and the third saw Simon Gray score from a one-on-one which these days is as
rare as seeing sunshine over the weekend.
A great diagonal ball from James Lye picked out Liam Ralph who powered home
number four and Dan Young scored the Centre's 100th of the season when he
knocked home number five.
The goals dried up in the second period as North Star put up a brave fight
to keep the Centre from scoring but on 65 minutes Tom Lye added number six
and with 10 minutes remaining Dan King claimed the seventh.

With time running out inspirational captain Craig Gingell headed home his
goal second of the game and the Centre's eighth.
Corsham Centre and Biddestone Social both have three games still to play and
next Thursday's battle between the sides could decide the winners of one of
the closest Premier Division battles for many years.
Miller Sports 3, Westbury Rangers A 6
PETE Ayton scored a fantastic hat-trick for Westbury Rangers A as they beat
Miller Sports 6-3 at the Beeches, Shaw.
And what made Ayton's second three-timer in four years for Rangers even
sweeter was that it was scored against Nick Evans, who lines up alongside
Ayton for Westbury United in the Toolstation League.
Now Ayton will never let Evans forget the night that he put three goals past
him.
Ayton beat Evans from 30 yards with a blistering strike to give Rangers the
lead. Marl Lanfear made it 2-0 before Jon Beattie scored his first goal of
the season for Miller Sports to reduce the arrears.
A second from Ayton restored Rangers' two goal cushion but once again Miller
Sports hit back with Ashley Groves cutting the deficit to the odd goal
before the break.
The second half was again bossed by Rangers and Matty Smith gave them a 4-2
lead and this time there was no immediate reply from the hosts as Sam
Gooding joined in the fun with his first goal of the season for Rangers to
make it 5-2.
But the night belonged to Ayton, who completed his hat-trick and Rangers'
half dozen with another exceptional drive from 30 yards that left Evans
rooted to the spot as the ball rocketed into the net.
Ashley Groves grabbed his second goal of the game for Miller Sports but it
only proved to be another consolation as Rangers returned home to Meadow
Lane with maximum points for the 16th time this term as the cemented a third
place finish.
The Ship 11, Christian Malford 1
LEE Hayward and his Ship side pulled out all the stops to get their Division
One match against relegated Christian Malford at the Stallards, Trowbridge,
staged as Hayward and Adam Glover spent a good part of the afternoon
removing surface water off the pitch.
As expected the hosts overcame ever-worsening conditions and a spirited
Malford side to win 11-1.
Booker Woodford set the Ship on their way and he made it 2-0 soon after.
Woodford went on to complete a hat-trick and Lee Hayward took his tally for
the season to 24 with the second three timer of the evening.
Adam Glover bagged a brace, Dave Percival's single took his total for the
campaign to 20 and Tom Bonsor and Jack Holdway also scored.
For Holdway it was his first goal for the Ship since his move from Steeple
Ashton Rangers earlier this year.
Ben Head scored Malford's consolation.
The victory leaves the Ship needing just one point to win the title, but
with a plus 24-goal difference over Potterne they are as good as guaranteed
the number one spot.
Crown Cosmos 7, Sutton Benger 0
QUICK thinking from Crown Cosmos player-manager and club secretary Will
Kibby prevented them from having to call off their Division Two match
against Sutton Benger.
Cosmos were due to host Benger at Green Lane in Devizes but early yesterday
afternoon Kibby received news that their pitch was waterlogged and that they
would be unable to use it.
With five matches left to play, Kibby realised his team couldn't afford a
postponement so a couple of phone calls later he found an alternative venue
at Stanley Park, Chippenham, and he was rewarded for his efforts in getting
the game played as his team claimed a 7-0 success that saw them close the
gap on second placed White Hart Combe to just one point.
Crown Cosmos are now four points adrift of leaders Cooper-Avon but have
played two fewer games.
Cosmos raced into a three-goal lead inside the first 15 minutes and at one
stage threatened to run riot as they looked for goals to eat into the
leaders' healthy goal difference.
Dean Potter scored the first for Cosmos and Benger's Phil Perry's doubled
the scoreline when he put through his own net. Potter added number three on
14 minutes, but then the scoring stopped for a while until Nathan Sheridan
banged home number four to give his team a 4-0 half-time advantage.
The second period saw Potter score a third to complete a great hat-trick.
David Lloyd also got on the score ahead of Sheridan scoring his second of
the game when he drove home from the penalty spot.
Westbury Rangers B 2, Crown FC 1
DEVIZES-based Crown FC blew their chance of finishing in fourth spot in
Division Three when they were beaten at Meadow Lane by Dave Griffin's
Westbury Rangers B who despite having most of the play only managed to wrap
up a 2-1 success.
Both teams were missing a few of their regulars but they were just grateful
that the rain that threatened the fixture stayed away long enough for it to
be completed.
Rangers took the lead in the eighth minute when a free kick from Simon
Higgins free kick was met by Matty Mead, whose header looked goal bound
until the ball was hooked off the line. The clearance fell to Neil Gordon
who turned the ball back into the net.
Rangers had to wait until the 55th minute before they added a second as
following a great cross from Liam Griffith, Gary Tugwell was on hand to
knock home his fire goal of the season to give the hosts a two goal
advantage.
The Crown were thrown a lifeline after 68 minutes when Ashley Easton
deflected a John Oram shot into his own net but although Mark Adamson's side
had chances to fashion an equaliser they were unable to find the net again
and they left Westbury feeling a little dejected as they were hoping that
their final game of what had been a very good season might have brought them
their 13th win.
But they will be more than happy with a fifth place finish considering they
started the campaign with two defeats.
Riverside Renegades 8, North Star B 0
BRADFORD-based Riverside Renegades closed out their first season in the
league with an 8-0 victory over North Star B that took them to the summit of
Division Four for the first time this season and if long time leaders
Steeple Ashton Rangers fail to pick up a point from their two remaining
matches they will be crowned champions.
Max Hepenstall opened the scoring when he netted his first ever goal for the
club when his penalty settled any nerves Riverside may have had prior to the
game.
Jake Jordan made it 2-0 and a double from Joe Taylor saw him finish the
campaign on 36 goals and in line for the division's top scorer of the season
award.
Player-manager Lance Davis scored the fifth and sixth goals of the game and
a second from Jordan took the score to 7-0 before Davis wrapped up the
emphatic victory with his third goal of the night and his 32nd of the
season, nine of which have come in the last two games.
