Merryweather is players’ choice at Malford

5:05am Tuesday 24th June 2008

CHRISTIAN Malford who suffered relegation from Division One at the end of last season handed out awards to both Aaron Merryweather and Neil Murray at their end of season party.

Merryweather was the top choice of his fellow players. The striker top scored with 12 of Malford's 41 goals in a campaign that saw the villagers win just three games from 22 outings.

Merryweather had an interrupted season as he missed a large part of it through injury but still impressed enough to take the players' player of the year accolade, and if he is still around next season his goals could help fire Malford to respectable position in Division Two.

Neil Murray picked up the managers' player of the season award. Despite playing in one of the most fragile defences in the division Murray always gave 100 per cent at right back and his effort and commitment was recognised by joint management team of Ben Head and Matt Thompson as he deservedly took the honour.
