SECOND Division Hullavington held their end of season awards night at The Star Inn before going into Malmesbury to celebrate a good season for the village side who after two relegations in a row regained some stability with a fifth place finish in the division.
Hullavington put their new found form down to the arrival of former Sherston Town players Ed, Matt and Jif Wilkins, Gavin Thompson and Ben Wright, all of whom made a big impact on the team in that they won 12 games last term compared to the poor effort of three when they were in Division One.
Ed Wilkins (37) and Wright (23) netted 60 goals between them and formed avery good strike partnership. And with Matt Wilkins and Thompson playing well in defence and hopefully with the addition of a reliable goalkeeper next year Hullavington will hope to finish higher.
Manager Adam Reeves has decided to step down after two years in charge. Matt Wilkins will take over next season with James Nation staying as secretary.
It was no surprise that both Matt and Ed Wilkins cleaned up when the awards were handed out. Defender Matt was presented with the players' player of the season. He claimed eight votes, beating his brother Ed, who got five, into second spot. Matt won almost everything in the air, made few mistakes and made a huge difference to the team. Hopefully his leadership skills will show even more next season as the manager of the team.
Ed Wilkins claimed the top goal scorer award with 37 goals in 22 games. Wilkins' 37 league goals was the first time a Hullavington player had passed 20 goals for the season since Steve Skull did in the early 1990s. Wilkins also scored against every team in Division Two and he also collected the Division Two's top scorer award at the league's annual meeting on Wednesday night. Ed Wilkins was also voted manager's player of the season, purely for his goal scoring ability. Wilkins took his chances really well and made scoring look easy at times. One of his best goals was scored against Crown Cosmos where he picked the ball up just inside of the opponents' half on the left wing, beat two players before smashing the ball home into the top right hand corner from the edge of the box. He scored three or more goals in four games.
