North Star B striker Mark Dolman was the winner of the Gazette & Herald sponsored Golden Boot award but the 21-year-old hot-shot who topped the goal scoring charts with 72 league goals was pushed all the way by Ed Wilkins of Hullavington who scored an unbelievable 69 times but still missed out on the top honour.
Dolman from Lick Hill, Calne scored in 21 one of his sides 24 league outings and was unavailable for two of the other three.
Dolman managed to score three of more goals in 14 of those matches, his highest single match haul was nine against AFC Lyneham, he scored six in two games and he bagged a four timer eight times and he netted three hat tricks.
In his last seven matches he scored three of more goals but he missed out on beating Antony Dowell’s 10 year record of scoring six consecutive trebles as he missed his teams 2-0 defeat against Corsham Centre B, but if he can bag a three timer on the opening day of next season he will write his name in the league’s record books.
Dolman bagged 73 league goals but he also scored goals in both Eric Hughes Memorial Knockout Cup and WG Parr Trophy to take his combined total for the season to 82.
Many people believe that Dolman should be playing at a higher level but he has already proved that he can do the business in Division one as he scored 35 goals for North Star A in their promotion winning season of 2007 and scored seven times for the Star in the top flight before dropping down to the B team where he bagged another before moving on to AFC Calne where he netted another seven.
Dolman returned to North Star B for the start of this season and there is no doubt that his goals helped the Star to sparkle as they finish as division four champions after almost going out of existence the previous year.
Along with the Golden Boot award Dolman will receive vouchers to the value of £100. The Gazette’s Sports Editor, Jon Boyle presented the award along with the trophies to the other divisional top scorers.
Winsley’s Mike Little scored 32 goals that saw him top the list of premier division goal scorers, Little just edged out Steve Roddy from the Dog & Fox Ashley by the odd goal.
White Hart Combe’s Aaron Merryweather may have missed out a top two place in the League but his 27 goals was enough to give the villagers striker the winners gong in Division One, Merryweather finished four goals ahead of Foresters Arms front man Leigh Rowles-Hitchcock and that despite missing a few games through injury.
Having topped the division two scoring chart last term with 37 goals Hullavington’s Ed Wilkins was in blistering form once again and the prolific hit man bagged an amazing 69 leagues goals beating Audley’s Chris Yeo by 23 goals, next in line was Mark Robinson (45) and Craig Townsend (41) all of whom would have topped the table last term.
Third division newcomers Three Horseshoes Renegades may have had to settle for runner up spot behind Three Crowns United, but the Bradford based side boosted the top finisher in the division as Lance Davis topped scored with 28 goals which was seven less than he managed last season.
