White Hart Combe remain at the top of division one, after their match away at Cooper Avon was postponed, due to Cooper’s pitch at the Conigre being unplayable.

Combe who were beaten 5-1 by Cooper in the knockout cup earlier this season had offered to host the game and have it as their home fixture but they were a little annoyed and bewildered that Cooper’s assistant manager Colin Shaftoe failed to take them up on their offer.

Like Combe, Cooper’s manager Gary Newman and his players were also annoyed that they missed out on a game when they had the opportunity to play one especially as they have a free weekend later in the month.

Atworth United 1, Bremhill View Social Club 5

After a promising start to the season Atworth United have suddenly seen a slump in form, Atworth who were beaten 12-0 last weekend by leaders White Hart Combe were hoping to get back to winning ways when they hosted Bremhill View Social Club but the villagers crashed to s second straight defeat after they suffered a 5-1 defeat. A Rob Smith double gave Bremhill a two goal half time lead and a second half brace from Mark Smith took the score to 4-0 before Terry Cox added number five for Bremhill. Atworth’s consolation might have been late coming but it was defiantly worth the wait and was scored by Scott Boyd who volleyed home a brilliant reply.

Foresters Arms 2, Carpenters Arms 3

Both Foresters Arms and Carpenters Arms went into their match at Awdry Avenue, Melksham with unbeaten records and after 90 minutes it was Chris Carr’s Carpenters side whose record stayed intact after they claimed a very controversial 3-2 victory that left the Foresters felling robbed by what they believed to be some very poor refereeing decisions which they thought swung the game in favour of Carpenters, but victorious manager Chris Carr had a different take on things and believed that Foresters helped in their own downfall as once Carpenters’ got back into the game they seemed to lose concentration.

Foresters took the lead on 10 minutes through Luke Turvey who headed home a Martin Williams corner. Foresters’ goalkeeper John Wiltshire who was the man of the match produced a string of fine saves to keep the hosts in the game and it was down to him that they maintained their slender advantage until the break.

Foresters doubled their lead early in the second thanks to Ian Dowell, who scored from the penalty spot after being brought down by Jamie Batstone, Dowell tucked his first effort from 12 yards away, but he was ordered to retake his kick and once again he made no mistake as Foresters made it 2-0.

Carpenters came back into the game as Foresters conceded a soft goal that was scored by Pete Spong. Foresters then gave away a penalty when Ali Jaffari was upended in the area, the resulting spot kick was scored by Nick Gleeson this was after the hosts thought that they should have been awarded a goal when Carpenters’ keeper Ashley Haines appeared to carry the ball over his own goal line, but much to their displeasure it wasn’t given.

Carpenters’ through players forward looking for a winner and it was Nick Gleeson whose second of the game won it for the visitors, Gleeson lobbed the ball over keeper Wiltshire from 20 yards who in his attempt to get the ball had ran into Matt Minnis and with Foresters appealing for a foul the ball ended up in the net and to the anger of the hosts the goal was allowed to stand.

North Bradley 1, Biddestone Arms 0

After not being unable to buy a win in the first month of the season North Bradley look as if they have hit a good run of form, Tim Richards side had lost their opening three league games but their 1-0 victory over Biddestone Arms extended their unbeaten run to four matches in all competitions and edged them well clear of the relegation zone. Kieren Baggs claimed the only goal of the game which he scored in the second half of a keenly contested affair that could have gone either way.

North Star A 0, Rowde FC 2

North Star A’s season just goes from bad to worse, Gary Elliott’s side crashed to a sixth straight loss of the campaign after being beaten by Kevin Whitbread’s Rowde side whose 2-0 victory moved them into fourth spot and was their fourth game on the spin that they have remained unbeaten after suffering an opening day loss.

Rowde’s win should have been a lot more convincing as they missed plenty of chances that could have put them out of sight at the interval.

A combination of poor finishing and excellent goalkeeping from Will Elliott meant that all that separated the teams after 45 minutes was a Jamie Mullings goal. Further good goalkeeping and more missed opportunities may have proved costly to Rowde but once Nathan Emm had made it 2-0 Rowde coasted home to victory.
