Three Horseshoes Renegades go up

DIVISION THREE: Three Horseshoes Renegades will join Three Crowns United in division two next season after Lance Davis side beat The Crown FC 9-4 to claim the runners-up spot in Division three ahead of Bromham (Sunday) who they had beaten 5-2 earlier in the week.

Three Horseshoes took their unbeaten run to 13 matches with what was a resounding victory as they blew away their guests at St Laurence School, Bradford. Lance Davis led by example as he netted the first of his teams nine goals, a sweet left footed finish from Josh Maguire made it 2-0 and Jake Jordan added number three before Dan Sloan pulled a goal back for the Crown.

A second from Jake Jordan and a brilliant diving header from Ricky Montacute gave the hosts a 5-1 lead before a second from Sloan narrowed the gap, but at 5-2 up Renegades went into the break confident of finishing in second spot.

Renegades flew out the blocks in the second half and a neat one-two between Davis and Jake Jordan saw the former finish well for his second of the game and his teams sixth, good work from Maguire saw him set up Davis for goal number seven that also saw him complete his hat trick and Davis was on target again before Crown pulled two goals back thanks to Oli Gage and Tom Perkins.

With the points already won it was left to Jake Jordan to wrap up the second treble of the game when he completed the scoring for Renegades with his hat trick goal and their ninth of the morning. Trowbridge Town Supporters Club 1, Southwick Wanderers 2 Trowbridge Town Supporters Club saw their winless run extended to seven matches after they were beaten at home 2-1 by a Southwick Wanderers side who had defeated them 6-0 just four weeks ago.

Southwick led 2-0 at half time courtesy of goals from Neil Collett whose delightful half volley from a Nick Buckle cross made it 1-0 and Ollie Turner who tucked the ball away after Dom Sheppard set him up following a Tom Mann corenr, but despite Ron Marshall pulling a goal back for the supporters’ club the visitors to Bratton saw out the game to record a league double over their hosts who they have only suffered one loss against in six encounters. Westbury Rangers B 2, Steeple Ashton Rangers 2 Westbury Rangers B and Steeple Ashton Rangers shared four goals and the points at Meadow Lane following their 2-2 draw, after a goal less first half the match finally sprung into life on 70 minutes when Lee Mounty’s 30 screamer put Ashton ahead.

Matty Mead who had been denied at least four one on ones with Ashton’s stand-in keeper Bryn Holt finally got the better of the stopper on 75 minutes when he raced onto a ball over the top from Dave Jones to fire Westbury level.

Ben King’s stunning long range strike regained the lead for Ashton before a good finish from the edge of the area from Ian Young after good work from Mead saw the points shared from a game that Westbury thought they should have won especially as Ashton had pulled their team positions out of a hat before kick-off.

Midweek Round-up (Tuesday Night) After a nervy few weeks that had seen long time third division leaders Three Crowns United almost blow their chances of promotion, Tony Beasley’s Chippenham based have at last booked their place in division two without kicking a ball after their nearest challengers Bromham (Sunday) suffered their first defeat in 20 matches when they were beaten by Three Horseshoes Renegades who can now win the title or leapfrog Bromham for second place should they beat The Crown in their final match of the season on Sunday and Three Crowns fail to get anything from their game with Westbury Rangers B on Thursday night.

Three Horseshoes were second best for much of their game with Bromham and they were being outplayed by their guests at St Laurence School, Bradford but took the lead midway through the first half when against the run of play Lance Davis headed home a Jake Jordan cross to put his team ahead.

Bromham hit back to level through Jim Sandiford but once again with their backs to the wall somehow the Three Horseshoes stole the lead before the interval when Jake Jordan put them 2-1 in front.

Ady Kember’s side restored parity early in the second half with a deserved equaliser which was netted by Freddie Paget but for a third time Three Horseshoes took the lead against the run of play with Rick Montacute scoring on the break. With Bromham going in search of another equaliser they were caught again in a moment that decided the game when Lance Davis was adjudged to have been brought down inside the area much to the displeasure of Bromham who thought the foul occurred outside of the box, the resulting penalty was scored by Jake Jordan to give the home team a two goal cushion.

Three Horseshoes sealed their victory when Jake Jordan set up player/manager Davis for his second of the night and his teams fifth that now puts them in a good position to finish the campaign in the top two which didn’t seem a possibility at the start of the year.

Midweek Round-up (Thursday Night) After weeks of will they or won’t they Chippenham based Three Crowns United finally clinched the number one spot in Division three following their 2-0 victory away at Westbury Rangers B but Tony Beasley’s side had to work very hard for the win and with it the joy of taking the title that just a few weeks ago looked to be a formality until their season sensationally stuttered to a conclusion.

Three Crown’s had managed just one point from a possible six in their last three games, but knew that a point would be good enough to give them their first piece of silverware and after a nervy start they took the lead when Joe Gooding put through his own goal when under pressure from Mark Baldwin.

Kelvin Page made certain of the all important victory when he pounced on a bad mistake in Rangers defence to fire home number two and with no further goals coming in the second half the victors were more than happy with the outcome that meant they would go up as champions.

Should the unthinkable happen and Three Crowns lose they will have to wait until Sunday to see if they can stay in the number one spot as Three Horseshoes would move above them with victory over The Crown to leave them asking where did it all go wrong. Steeple Ashton Rangers 14, Lavington (Sunday) 1 Steeple Ashton Rangers 14-1 victory over a 10 man Lavington (Sunday) outfit condemned Oliver Hickton’s side to relegation to division four, but Hickton’s opposite number Nathan Holloway was full of praise for his fellow villagers for the attitude and willingness to play the game.

Lavington were always going to be up against it and having lost the earlier meeting between the sides 12-1, the visitors to St Mary’s were hoping for damage limitation but with one man down it was always going to a big ask as Ashton ran riot for a second time, Mark Sheppard led the scoring with a six timer.

Lee Mounty scored four of the 14 goals with Phil Lewis, Dan Ford, Matt Grist and Nathan Holloway sharing the others, Ben Smith scored Lavington’s consolation.
