WITH the start of the 45th campaign of the Chippenham Sunday League just days away it is hoped that the weather will continue to show an improvement on recent weeks and, for the first time in many seasons, all of the scheduled 30 matches will proceed to get the season of to a flying start.

GREAT Western and Staverton FC both lifted silverware at the Chippenham & District Sunday League's Ken Clarke Memorial six-a-side tournament at the weekend, the latter being crowned champions at Leafy Lane.

MATTHEW Ralph, captain of Corsham Centre, lifted a third piece of silverware this season when he collected the Robson Taylor, Chippenham League, Premier Division winners' trophy from league secretary Frank Harvey following their 6-2 victory near-neighbours Box Rovers on Sunday.

CORSHAM Centre’s victory over Dog & Fox Ashley at Meriton Avenue on Thursday evening sealed their fifth successive Robson Taylor, Chippenham League Premier Division title, so they will definitely be in a party mood when they host near-neighbours Box Rovers this Sunday.

WINSLEY finished the season on a high with a 3-1 victory when they hosted Westbury Rangers A at Brown’s Park, Freshford on Wednesday evening after the game was switched from Meadow Lane. Winsley were beaten 6-2 in the reverse fixture and could have been as many as five or six down in the first half had it not been for goalkeeper Neil Hannaford, who produced a series of fine saves.

IF Corsham Centre avoid defeat against Dog & Fox Ashley at Meriton Avenve on Thursday evening then Martin Bradfield’s side will be crowned as Premier Division winners for a fifth successive season. Despite having not lost any of their 20 matches to date, Centre have not been at their best this season.

PAUL Ranger will be hoping that his Winsley side can finish the season with a victory when they host Westbury Rangers A at Brown’s Park, Freshford tonight, after the game was switched from Meadow Lane. Both teams were involved in matches at the weekend which between them produced a total of 26 goals.

HAVING held Corsham Centre to a 2-2 draw on Tuesday evening, Cooper Avon threw the race to become Robson Taylor, Chippenham League Premier Division champions wide open once more when they took a point from leaders Biddestone Social who, for a second time in almost a month, left it late before scoring to deny Gary Newman’s side victory.
