PREMIER DIVISION SEASON PREVIEW: Champions face tricky opener

WITH the start of the 45th campaign of the Chippenham Sunday League just days away it is hoped that the weather will continue to show an improvement on recent weeks and, for the first time in many seasons, all of the scheduled 30 matches will proceed to get the season of to a flying start.

GREAT Western and Staverton FC both lifted silverware at the Chippenham & District Sunday League's Ken Clarke Memorial six-a-side tournament at the weekend, the latter being crowned champions at Leafy Lane.

WINSLEY finished the season on a high with a 3-1 victory when they hosted Westbury Rangers A at Brown’s Park, Freshford on Wednesday evening after the game was switched from Meadow Lane. Winsley were beaten 6-2 in the reverse fixture and could have been as many as five or six down in the first half had it not been for goalkeeper Neil Hannaford, who produced a series of fine saves.
