Youngster Towler gets Ranger's vote at Winsley

19-year-old Michael Towler who signed for premier division side two months after the season had started but came to prominence in the second half of the campaign when he started to feature on a regular basis for the villagers was rewarded for his efforts at the clubs end of season bash on Saturday night when he was chosen by manager Paul Ranger as his player of the season.

Towler helped transform the side from relegation candidates to a top seven club with his youthful energy that saw him give the team plenty of running and determination down the left hand side. Goalkeeper, Chris Birleson probably played half a season in total for the side, but he made such an impact in the clubs turnaround when he was able to play that even with limited appearances his fellow players realised his contribution to their efforts as the picked him as their players’ player of the season. Birleson conceded just four goals in his last seven games that saw him keep four clean sheets.

Young, Player of the season was Chris Foley, Foley started many games on the bench before forcing his way into the team, and towards the end of the season played through the pain barrier as he fought to keep his place.

Mike Little won the teams top scorer award by a country mile beating his brother Phil by 22 goals. Mike finished the season on 32 goals which was also good enough to see him top the goal scoring charts of the premier division by one goal from Dog & Fox Ashley’s Steve Roddy.
