GOALS in the opening and final two minutes of their game at Steeple Ashton earned Warminster Town Reserves a first win of the season in Division One of the Trowbridge Windows & Conservatories-sponsored Trowbridge League.

Luke McGulkian gave Warminster their early lead which was eventually wiped out early in the second half by Kieran Stone.

However, with just two minutes left on the clock and just seconds after Neil Taylor had hit the post for the villagers, Warminster broke away and Matt Gee with a long-range effort that went through a crowd of players won it for Andy McFerran’s side.

Bradford United and Trowbridge Town Reserves opened their campaigns by facing each other, United chalking up their first points of the season thanks to a 6-2 win.

A superb 20-yard strike from Richie Bliha put Bradford ahead, Phil Little’s header from a Ryan Mortimer cross made it 2-0 and a simple tap-in for Dan Jones made it 3-0 at the break.

A second from Little and Dan Sandford added to the tally in the second half, before goals from Mike Johnson on 62 minutes and a Levi Wood penalty in the 70th minute gave Trowbridge a glimmer of hope.

That soon vanished when Dan Jones raced clear to smash home his second.

After their 5-4 opening-day win over North Bradley, Castle Combe came back down to earth with a 6-1 loss at home to champions Freshford United.

Freshford, who were also denied by the woodwork on five occasions and a solid performance from home keeper Tom Webb, netted through Mark Gerrish and Ricky Trott in the first half and Steve Roddy, an own goal from Adam Walsh, Roddy's second and Dan Fowler before Scott Nash scored a late consolation for Combe.

A first outing of the season for Hilperton United (formerly The Lamb) saw them lose out 2-1 to North Bradley.

Darren Jones made the most of a goalkeeping error as he rolled the ball into an empty net to give Bradley the lead which was cancelled out by Sean O’Brien who scored from the penalty spot.

Scott Askew grabbed what turned out to be the winner for Ben Howe’s side just before half time.
