MELKSHAM Town Reserves may currently boast the meanest defence in the Wiltshire League Premier Division but manager Steve Burns would love to see his side get it right at the other end.

Watertight Melksham have conceded just two goals all season and stretched their unbeaten run to six matches last weekend with a 1-0 victory over last season’s champions Southbrook, courtesy of an own goal from the hosts’ Terry Dearing.

But Burns wants to see his side begin to take their chances and believes that Melksham will stride up the table if they can become more clinical in front of goal.

“We’ve got a settled side and a particularly settled defence – we’ve got things right at the back,” said the Melksham manager.

“It’s just things at the other end which have been frustrating.

“Even the game against Trowbridge we should won, and there’s also been the matches against Devizes and Ludgershall that ended at 0-0.

“We’ve signed a new striker from Trowbridge, Sean Fordham, so hopefully that will help.

“We have been creating chances and I’d be more worried if we weren’t doing that but hopefully we can start taking them.”

Melksham are currently eighth in the table and make the trip to ninth-placed Shrewton United this weekend.

Elsewhere, Trowbridge Wanderers have now gone four games unbeaten after racking up a 3-1 win over Ludgershall Sports whilst Corsham Town Reserves picked up a point as they drew 1-1 at high-flying Wroughton.

Trowbridge Town shipped five goals for the second weekend in succession as they lost 5-2 at Shrewton whilst Westbury United Reserves were beaten 2-0 at second-placed Chippenham Park.
