DARREN Perrin hopes that his Melksham Town players savoured their show-stopping FA Vase victory over Bournemouth Poppies last weekend because outings like that don’t come along too often.

Rampaging Melksham dispatched their Sydenhams League Premier Division opponents, bearing their teeth to the rest of the country with an 8-1 win at the Conigre.

Striker Gary Higdon starred as he grabbed a stunning five-goal haul whilst Ash Barnett hit a brace and Leigh Rogers also got himself in on the rout.

Despite wishing to remain respectful to a battered and bruised Bournemouth, manger Darren Perrin admitted that he didn’t feel overly sympathetic towards his side’s vanwuieshed opponents and was instead keen to reflect on a memorable afternoon at the Conigre.

“I wouldn’t say that I felt for them because my concern is Melksham. I wasn’t there at the time but nobody felt for Melksham when we lost 10-1 to Yate Town (in 2011) or 9-2 to Cadbury Heath in the league a couple of years ago,” said Perrin.

“It was one of those days where we were exceptional and everything that could go wrong for them did go wrong.

“Only half of what we hit went in. We hit the woodwork two or three times and could have scored a lot more than we did.

“I’m just delighted. I’m delighted for Gary Higdon, who’s now got 15 goals in 12 games in all competitions, and I’m delighted for the entertainment we continue to serve up at the Conigre.

“The amount of goals we’re scoring and conceding at home is frightening and hopefully we can keep doing that, but at the end of the day, all I want in the next game is for us to get a win – any win.

“It would also be good if we could stay relatively injury-free in the lead-up to the next Vase game.”

Melksham have been handed a home tie in the first round proper of the Vase, with Hellenic League Highmoor Ibis set to come to town on November 1.

Perrin welcomes back strikers Dan Kovacs and Dan King, who was cup-tied last weekend, and Jack Morris for Saturday’s league clash with Winterbourne United.
