CORSHAM Town chief Trevor Rawlings admitted that he felt for everyone that dug into their pockets to watch his side’s turgid Wiltshire Senior Cup clash with Supermarine Sports last weekend.

Corsham avoided a slip-up as they saw off their Wiltshire League opponents 2-0 at the Southbank thanks to Ryan Tyrell’s header from an Aaron Ledgister free-kick and a late Dan Lardner goal.

But boss Rawlings says that Saturday’s cup tie could rate as the most uninspiring game he’s ever been involved in and is in no doubt that it won’t live long in the memory.

“I feel sorry for anyone that paid money to go and watch that. That had to be the worst game I’ve ever been involved in,” said the Corsham manager.

“There were plenty of shocks in the cup at the weekend and we wanted to make sure that we weren’t one of them but it was just a nothing game.

“The pace of the game was just so slow and there was only one bit of quality in 90 minutes, which was the header from the edge of the 18-yard box.

“I wish I knew why the game was so bad but I just have no idea. The important thing is that we won and got ourselves through.”

Nick Holton, Ben Moore, Matt Jenkins, Kieran Gleed and Lewis McCarron all return to the Corsham squad for next weekend’s Toolstation League First Division clash with Oldland Abbotonians but Gary Blackwood and Gary Banks are still injured.

Rawlings added: “We beat Oldland in the first game of the season but they’ve been flying recently.

“They took a point at Barnstaple on Saturday and it’s going to be a tough one.”
