WARMINSTER Town joint-manager Derek Graham reckons that Calne Town goalkeeper Jamie Bartlett didn’t deserve to be on the losing side as his team progressed through to the second round of the Wiltshire Senior Cup last weekend.

Graham and Andy Crabtree’s men ran out 2-1 winners at Bremhill View on Saturday, with Alex Lapham firing in a free-kick off the underside of the bar and Jack Miluk smashing home following a scramble in the Calne box to cancel out Aaron Hopkins’ opener.

But the Weymouth Street joint-chief thought that his team could have won by a much larger margin had it not been for the efforts of Lilywhites stopper Bartlett.

“He was amazing. He pulled off five or six fantastic saves and completely kept them in the game,” said Graham.

“He saved two of our shots right after each other in the second half but had no chance with the third one, which Jack Miluk has put in.

“Their first goal was one of those where it should have been our throw-in but the referee has given one to them. The ball has nicked off their lad’s toe and the ref had no way of seeing it but it’s happened right in front of the dugout.

“Our guys have all gone forward but they’ve taken it quickly and scored from it.

“Alex Lapham scored a lovely free-kick to get us back into it – he was the best player on the pitch and with him and Tom Welch in midfield, we do look good.

“Young George Butler also played very well. It was a local derby but there was nothing nasty in it and it was a good game of football.”

Warminster, who are without a fixture this weekend, are set to travel to Swindon-based Wiltshire League outfit Southbrook in the next round on November 8.
