WESTBURY United pushed Toolstation League First Division title-chasers Wincanton Town all the way last weekend.
With Mark Hurkett, who was this week named as Shaun Gardiner’s new assistant manager, in charge, United came within a whisker of making the score 3-3 before the home side netted twice late on to kill off the Westbury fightback.
Mark Young struck to quickly cancel out Jamie Jordan’s opener, with Mitch Spackman smacking a header against the Wincanton crossbar before Jack Mitchell restored the hosts’ lead.
Nick Taylor struck to restore parity and after Lee Gale had put Wincanton ahead again, Taylor’s free-kick was spilled by goalkeeper Jonny Hill, very nearly allowing United to capitalise.
But Matthew Chant and Gale both struck in the closing stages to safeguard all three points for the Somerset hosts.
