MELKSHAM Town and Bradford Town both face one of the biggest games in their respective histories tomorrow as they go in search of places in the last 32 of the FA Vase.

Toolstation Premier Division leaders Melksham welcome Shepton Mallet to the Conigre, while Bradford have also been drawn at home as Odd Down visit Trowbridge Road (both 3pm).

Victory for either side would earn £1,500 in prize money and secure them a place in the fourth round, when the competition opens up to a national draw.

Melksham boss Darren Perrin is keen for a response from his players following the 2-1 league defeat at Street in midweek and is expecting a big crowd to turn out and get behind his troops.

“It’s important that we bounce back in what is a massive game for the club,” said Perrin.

“We would create a bit of history if we win, in that it would be the furthest the club has ever been in the competition.

“Forget league positions, we are going into the game as underdogs. They have already beaten us in the league this season and beaten us quite convincingly. Shepton Mallet have got proven players with Football League experience so we know what we are going to be up against.

“We are anticipating a huge crowd and hopefully something like 400 people will turn up.

“I hope the players don’t freeze because of that, because if we play as well as we can do we are capable of getting something.”

Bradford have also already faced their opponents this season – recording two narrow league victories over Bath-based Odd Down.

But manager Paul Shanley says those previous results will count for nothing this weekend.

“The Vase has been good to us this season and we’ve had some decent results in it. Hopefully we can get another one on Saturday,” said Shanley, whose side were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Street in their previous outing last Saturday.

“It was important that we got something from the game last weekend as we can go into this one with that little bit more belief.

“It’s a cup game so form goes out of the window. I know we’ve beaten them twice this season but, up at Bath, they were probably the better team and we were a bit lucky to come away with a 1-0 win.

“Then down at our place it was 2-1, so it’s only been by the odd goal each time.

“We’re two pretty evenly-matched teams and it will be another tight game this weekend.”
