MELKSHAM Town boss Darren Perrin says that he’s chuffed simply to see his side still involved in the Toolstation League Premier Division title race.

Perrin’s men cut the gap on league leaders Bristol Manor Farm back to a point with a dominant 5-1 victory over Shepton Mallet last weekend.

Despite falling a goal behind, Melksham roared back at the Conigre with a brace from Dan Kovacs and goals from Ryan Bennett, Dan Griffiths and Mike Perrott.

“We hadn’t played since Boxing Day and it took us a while to get started – Shepton were better in the first 20-25 minutes but after that, the players were fantastic and in reality, we could have scored more goals,” said Perrin.

“Shepton are a very good football side, so it was a fantastic result.

“I think the league table is starting to take shape. It’s tight, right from the top to 10th or 11th, and I’m just glad that we’re one of the teams that are still involved in it all.

“I know that I’ve said it plenty of times before but the players deserve all the credit for what we’ve been doing this season.”

Gary Higdon and Mike Perrott are major doubts for Saturday’s FA Vase showdown with Bradford Town whilst Dean Flockton is out.
