A SECOND-HALF penalty saw Corsham Town’s Les Phillips Cup campaign come to an end with a 2-1 defeat at home to higher league Gillingham Town.

Will Agbo put the visitors ahead at the Southbank but Jason Henley brought Corsham back level at the break.

The home side failed to raise their game in the second period, however, and Steve Smith’s spot-kick midway through settled the tie.

Corsham boss Trevor Rawlings said: “I’m a bit disappointed.

“In the first 45 minutes we were very good. From the first whistle we took the game to Gillingham.

“Their keeper kept them in it and then they went down the other end and nicked a goal.

“We kept going and equalised and we could have been a couple of goals up at half-time.

“We didn’t really come out in the second half, and after they scored the penalty we ran out of ideas.

“In the first half you’d have thought we were the Premier Division side. We should have capitalised on our dominance but we didn’t and that’s the price you pay.”
