BEN Hogg’s Holt side picked up a massive three points in their bid to finish top of the pile in Division Two.

The villagers hosted fellow promotion hopefuls Westbury Town who started the day in pole position but thanks to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Holt, coupled with Heytesbury's success over Calne Eagles, they slipped down to second spot.

Both teams had numerous chances to find the net before and after Zack Manna grabbed the only goal of a gripping contest.

Manna’a first half strike may have been his 32nd of the campaign but it could prove to be the most important.

But despite Holt's victory, Heytesbury went top of the pile after a commanding second half performance ensured a comfortable 5-1 win over Calne Eagles.

In a very even and tightly-contested first half, Heytesbury gained a 1-0 advantage on 30 minutes with a superb solo goal from right winger James Reeves, who after collecting a pass from Matthew Hyde, beat one defender and fired home an unstoppable shot from 10 yards out.

Right at the start of the second half, Heytesbury got a lucky break when an off-target set-play, which led on to a Luke Love flick-on from a Reeves free kick inadvertently deflecting into the top corner of the goal off a Calne defender.

Heytesbury player-manager Kieron Edwards headed after home 54 minutes from a Brendan Hind corner kick after losing his marker at the back post.

Calne did get a goal back with 20 minutes left  to make it 3-1 when sub Mickey Taraskevics scored on his debut but in the last 15 minutes, Heytebury's top-scorer Leigh Kennedy broke free to score his 29th goal of the season and with 3 minutes left, substitute David Stratton tapped in from close range after being set up by Kennedy.

After last week’s defeat at Heytesbury, Allan Clarke’s White Horse side got themselves back in the promotion race thanks to their excellent 8-1 success at Trowbridge Wanderers Reserves.

Stuart Barber’s penalty after Dale Rowland had been upended gave White Horse the lead.

If they struggled to break Wanderers down in the first half they turned the screw at the start of the second and within eight minutes of the restart they were 4-0 ahead.

Jordan Gullis finished off a great team move for 2-0 and two more goal for Barber made it 4-0.

Kane Scott added goals five and six with substitutes’ Steve Munday and Paul Beavers making up the eight. Paul Gittins’ penalty after Joe Walker was brought down gave Wanderers their consolation.
