DEREK Graham took plenty of heart from Warminster Town’s narrow loss at home to league leaders Welton Rovers.

The visitors got the only goal of the game from the penalty spot, with Anthony Conradi firing home after half an hour.

However, they were forced to hang on in the second half as Ricky Scott was given his marching orders just before the break for bringing down Sam Babatunde.

Warminster upped the ante in the second period and although they were unable to draw level, joint manager Derek was delighted with his team’s effort.

He said: “It was a good game – there was nothing between the two sides. I was very pleased with our performance.

“They scored a penalty but people said it was a bit dubious. I actually thought it was a foul from where I was stood but people behind the goal didn’t think it was.

“It was very even after that and Welton are a decent side so we probably did as well as we could have expected.

“We had a couple of really good chances after they scored although when they had a man sent off I’d have preferred the goal than the red card.

“We didn’t deserve to win it but I think we should have got something out of it – and even they said that too.”

Warminster are away at Oldland Abbotonians on Saturday and Graham says he is targeting at least a point from that game.

“I think the win over Hengrove last week has given the lads confidence,” he said.

“That performance and Saturday’s bodes well for the next few weeks and I’d like to think we could get a draw at Oldland now.”
