AFTER suffering their second abandonment of the season last weekend, when their match with Hilperton United was stopped after just 43 following due to an injury, defending Trowbridge Windows & Conservatories-sponsored Trowbridge League Division One champions Freshford United were seeking victory over Semington Magpies as they look to reel in current pacesetters Bradford United.

A 5-0 victory for Chris Birleson’s side moves them to within six points of Bradford with four games in hand on Anthony Ottavanio’s table toppers. The villagers are also two points behind North Bradley and have played three fewer games than Ben Howe’s title hopefuls.

Freshford led 1-0 at the interval, Tom Rooney scoring the opener after good work from Nick Ross.

The home team would have been out of sight in the opening 45 minutes ahd it not been for the heroics of Magpies keeper Chris Dore who produced a number of great stops to keep the score at 1-0.

The second period again saw Dore in fine form but he was unable to keep Freshford at bay and they hit four more unanswered goals.

Ross scored from a Gavin Eyre corner to make it 2-0, Eyre was again the provider for the hosts third which hwas scored by Rooney.

Steve Roddy provided the assist for Rooney to score his third of the afternoon that made it 4-0.

Although he didn’t get his name on the score sheet Gavin Eyre played a huge part in his team's win as his pinpoint corner found Craig Brown who netted Freshford’s fifth and final goal of the game.
