WESTBURY United manager Shaun Gardiner admitted that his team were naïve as they fell to a 4-2 defeat at Wiltshire rivals Corsham Town.
The visitors were given an uphill battle in the first half when goals from Sam Ockwell and a double from Kieron Gleed left them staring defeat in the face.
However Gardiner’s young side did not drop their heads and a goal from Mark Lanfear before the break was followed up by a strike from Callum Cooper in the second half to put Westbury right back in the tie.
But with the visitors pushing for an equaliser they were caught on the break and Gleed completed his hat-trick to leave Gardiner disappointed at the final whistle.
“We started slow and then we gave away two sloppy goals,” he said.
“They scored again, which I think we could have dealt with better, and then we scored before half-time.
“We went in to the break and had a good chat. We then made it 3-2 and we were on top but because we were pushing forward they caught us on the break.
“When we got it back to 3-2 there was only one team in it, but all in all I am a bit disappointed about it to be honest.”
Things don’t get an easier for Westbury as they travel to Cribbs on Saturday and Gardiner will be looking for a better result than the 7-1 drubbing they received earlier in the season.
“If we can get anything from that game it is a bonus but we are just building now for next season,” added Gardiner.
“I have got a young side, so sometimes we are just a little bit naïve.
“If we stop our silly mistakes and keep together and move on next season then we’ll be ok.”
